Sunderland welcomes Liverpool at the Stadium of Light in this evening's kick off. Sunderland under interim manager Kevin Ball will be hoping to turn over a new leaf with a victory which has the eluded the club since since the start of the season. Brendan Rodgers will also be hoping get back to winning ways after back-to-back defeat to Southampton and Manchester United in the league and Capital one cup respectively.

Sunderland striker Steven Fletcher and Phil Bardsley are still sidelined while John O'Shea and Lee Catermole are set to return to the squad.
Luis Suarez returns to the Premier League after completing his 10-match ban. Joe Allen, Philippe Coutinho and Glen Johnson are still sidelined while Daniel Agger is set to return back to the squad after missing the Capital one cup tie at Old Trafford.

It was all square at White Hart Lane as Tottenham and Chelsea played out a one-all draw. Gylfi Sigurdsson broke the deadlock in the 19th minute. John Terry nodded home the equalizer off Mata's freekick midway through the second half. Fernando Torres was controversially sent off after a challenge with Belgium defender Jan Vertonghen.

Man of the Match : Gylfi Sigurdsson. The Iceland midfielder scored the opener for Tottenham and was a constant threat on the Chelsea defence.

It was a shocker at Old Trafford as West Brom consigned Manchester United to their third premier league defeat of the season after just 6 matches. Goals from Morgan Amalfitano and Saido Berahino was enough to give West Brom their first victory at Old Trafford since 1978. Wayne Rooney scored yet another free kick but was not enough to save the day for the Red Devils. 

Man of the match : Stephane Sessegnon was a constant threat to the Manchester United back line.

Arsenal maintained their grip on top of the premier league table with a 2-1 victory over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium. Goals from  Serge Gnabry and red-hot Aaron Ramsey gave the Gunners their 12th consecutive away victory in all competitions. Ben Davies pulled one back in the 82nd minute. 

Man of the Match : Aaron Ramsey. The red-hot Welshman masterminded yet another Gunners' victory after setting up Gnabry for the opener and grabbing the second goal minutes later.

In other results, Aston Villa without Christian Benteke stunned Manchester City with a 3-2 victory at Villa Park.

Tottenham welcomes Chelsea at White Hart Lane in this lunch time London derby, as Andre Villas-Boas goes to head-to-head with former boss Jose Mourinho. Arsenal dislodged Stoke City at the Emirates with a 3-1 victory as the Gunners made it 4 straight wins in the premier league and 7 wins in all competitions so far. In-form midfielder Aaron Ramsey opened scoring with 5 minutes into the game. Stoke City got an equaliser in the 26th minute through Geoff Cameron. Per Mertesacker restored the lead in the 36th minute and Bacary Sagna killed off the game in the 72nd minute with a header off Ozil's free-kick. The win moved Arsenal to the top of the premier league table.

Man of the Match : Mathieu Flamini. His work rate in the Gunners midfield was phenomenal.

It was massacre at Etihad Stadium as Manchester City demolished neighbours Manchester United in this season's first Manchester derby. It was lethargic display from David Moyes' men as they were completely outplayed by their 'noisy neighbours'. A brace from Sergio Aguero, and goals from Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri completed rout. Wayne Rooney pulled one back with a wonderful free-kick in the 87th minute. 

Man of the match : Yaya Toure. The Ivorian was outstanding in the heart of City's midfield

UCL SCOREBOARD - 18th September 2013





Football action returned last night across Europe in the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.

At Stamford Bridge, it was shell shock as Basle came from behind to inflict a second ever home defeat on Jose Mourinho. Oscar's goal at the stroke of half time was cancelled in the second half as Mohammed Salah and Marco Strellar struck to snatch away the 3 points from Stamford Bridge.

At Stade Velodrome France, Arsenal emerged victorious on the night as goals from Theo Walcott and Aaron Ramsey was enough to secure a winning start to their European campaign.

At Nou Camp, Barcelona brushed aside Ajax with a 4-0 victory. Lionel Messi scored a hat-trick as the Catalan giants strolled to an easy win.

At San Siro, AC Milan were 2-0 winners against the Bhoys from Celtic. Own goal from Emilio Izaguirre and second half strike from Sulley Muntari secured the needed victory for the Italian side.

UCL SCOREBOARD - 17th September 2013


It was football action across Europe last night as the group stage matches of the Uefa Champions League 2013/2014 season kicked off. 

At the Turk Telekom Arena, Real Madrid launched their European assault on the home side with a 1-6 massacre. Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 11th hat-trick and his 207th goals in 204 appearances for the La Liga Club.  

At Old Trafford, David Moyes opened his champions league account with a 4-2 victory over German club side Bayer Leverkusen. Wayne Rooney scored a brace and set up Antonio Valencia for the fourth goal on the night. Robin van Persie was also on the score sheet. Wayne Rooney's brace made it his 200th goal for Manchester United.

At Plzen, Czech Republic, Manchester City started their champions league campaign with a 0-3 victory. Goals from Edin Dzeko, Yaya Toure and Sergio Aguero was enough to secure the needed 3 points for Manuel Pellegrini.

At Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich started the defence of their UCL title with a 3-0 victory over Russian side CSKA Moscow. David Alaba. Mario Mandzukic and Arjen Robben were all on target.

At Karaiskakis Stadium in Greece, PSG were 1-4 winners on the night as the French champions kicked off with an impressive victory over Olympiakos. Goals from Edinson Cavani, brace from Thiago Motta and Marquinho completed the rout.

It was a four-goal thriller at the Liberty stadium last night as Swansea held Liverpool to a 2-2 draw. Jonjo Shelvey was instrumental to all the four goals on the night. The Englishman opened scoring with just 87 seconds into the game and did mistakenly assisted Daniel Sturridge and Victor Moses' goals. The forward later made up for his misdemeanor by setting up Spanish striker Michu for an equaliser deep into the second half.

The draw was enough to move Liverpool back to the top of the premier league table with 10 points from four matches.

EPL MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL - 16th September 2013

Liverpool travel to the Liberty stadium in this Monday night football EPL fixture. The Swans will be hoping to consolidate on their last victory against West Brom last month. Michael Laudrup will be aiming for a first home win of the league season. Defender Neil Taylor is set to return while latest signing Alvaro Vasquez is set to make his debut.

Robin van Persie converted a penalty after Kagisho Digkacoi was sent off for bringing down Ashley Young in the box at the stroke of half time. Wayne Rooney converted a free kick to secure the three points for David Moyes' men.

Man of the Match : Wayne Rooney put up an amazing display to inspire a lacklustre Manchester United side to victory. His wonderful free kick was enough to kill off the game.

Aaron Ramsey netted twice in the 67th and 76th minute to condemn Paolo Di Canio's men to their third defeat of the season.

Jose Mourinho suffered his first premier league loss of the season as Everton recorded their first premier league win of the season. Birthday boy Steven Naismith nodded home from close range at the stroke of half time. Samuel Eto'o had a miserable debut as the Cameroon striker alongside Andre Schurle spurned a host of scoring chances.

Man of the Match : Gareth Barry. The England midfielder was amazing in the Everton midfield and his tackle prevented Samuel Eto'o from giving Chelsea the lead in the first half.
